I had a great time drinking with the ladies of the Portland Brain Trust but this post is not about that.

The Whole Bowl can suck it. This cost me oh, I’d say, about a buck fifty at the most and was DELICIOUS.

Delicious. Black beans with a little cumin, red pepper flakes, and cinnamon, simmered in Melissa Lion fashion and topped with avocado, plain yogurt, and steamed yellow peppers. Oh! And of course Aardvark sauce. Very important, the Aardvark sauce.

So….The Whole Bowl? You can go to hell. Or, as Dane and I are wont to say to each other in times of marital strife, “Don’t talk to me for five minutes.”

I hate the whole bowl. God, someone please pop the tires on those food carts and then throw them into traffic. Steve and I have both eaten there and gotten so sick. Like lying in bed and dying sick. I hate that place. And whole bowl, if you’re listening — I’M A FOOD WRITER, FUCKERS.

I love Aardvark however and they are perfect people. And so it is because I said so.

What kind of flavor does that inhaler bring to the dish?

3 kiala { 08.07.08 at 2:20 pm }

Flavr flavor.

Oh, and can someone explain Aardvark Sauce to me? I could look it up, I’m sure, but then what would we talk about?

Meagan?

I need your assistance please. Explain the sauce to Charley.

It’s the most delicious hot sauce ever. And it’s made in Portland. It’s got flavr and flavor — not too hot that you don’t taste it. I love it.

So you have to love it to.

Hi. I’m on deadline.

Who else has a question?????

TOO.

God. Thank Jeebus for editors.

Dearest Charley,

Even though Melissa so eloquently described said sauce, I thought I’d help out a bit:
It is located at Market of Choice, New Seasons, Food Front, and Salvador Molly’s just to name a few places. They also have Drunken Garlic Black Bean sauce incase you’re needing less heat [that is my favorite].
You can e-mail them for more information at: secretaardvark@msn.com.

Intern out.

Best intern ever! What am I paying you? Nothing? Double that!

All I want is your undying love and first born :-)

I love sauce.

Geez. That whole bowl place is right by my work. I never understood why someone expects me to pay over $5 for something I could make myself for like, $1. Going to the Eastern European cart or Altengartz German Brautwurst is a better bet. Mmmm, sausage.

Question:

Won’t you miss the corrugated steel mystique of The Whole Bowl restaurants? I mean, it’s hard to come by eateries that offer the ambiance of those bold but graceful waves of corrugated steel parallel lines. I guess you could eat around some cardboard, but it doesn’t seem quite as good.

I would like some Aardvark sauce.

15 charley { 08.08.08 at 12:35 am }

Also, Food Front! I’ve been sporadically trying to remember the name of that place for years. That’s some intern you have there, Kiala.

16 Meagan { 08.08.08 at 9:15 am }

oh, Charley, you make me blush.

oooh la la!

That’s all, I’ve just been dying to type “oooh la la” somewhere. Face of the Cookie is the winner!

Wanna hear some weird shit? Sure you do. I live in Michigan and I was getting my hair done on Wednesday and to my left there’s a girl holding a printed picture of your Superfan Erica and saying, “I want my bangs just like this. Just like this. Please.” Small, creepy world.

Kristin – NO. WAY.

For reals?
