Portland needs a Muji like Kiala needs a Klonopin.

I love new addictions! I’m SOOOOO SICKKK of everything right now and maybe this has a lot to do with the weather and how it is making me consider an eight hour bath to be a pretty good idea, but whatever. I want to be addicted to MUJI like the rest of the new world!

And New York has two Mujis. Or Mujii? I don’t know which is right. Anyway, that seems unfair. We don’t even have one. We barely have an IKEA and yes, ok, we do have a Khiels, but I don’t care. If Portland wants to continue to be seen as progressive, we need to get ourselves a Muji and we need to get one fast.

Even William Gibson adores the Mujiiis
and this is a man who knows HOW SPACE WORKS. And I’ll give you a hint: It has nothing to do with peanut butter, a rubber band, and a giant clock, so don’t make that mistake the way I might have done recently at a dinner party because it is embarrassing.

Rhode Island doesn’t have a Muji either.

Don’t be sad Portland.

I could so go for a Klonopin right now.

I shall use all the power of my newfound fame as a rock star to bring a Muji to Portland for my super-cute sissy!

BTW, your friends are dope. That’s right isn’t it? Isn’t that what the kids are saying these days?

You know, when I’ve been in London (like always) I go into the Muji there and I go in and go in and go in and I’ve never bought a single thing. It’s all plastic and whatever. I couldn’t understand it.

Okay, this is all making me reconsider my new Muji addiction.

Maybe.

I don’t know.

I like things.

No, don’t reconsider it. Just go for it. Because what I was saying is that I was addicted. Every single time I’ve been to London, I head straight for that store, and every time, I leave thinking, huh. They had some Muji in LA at the MOCA store too, and same thing. I’ll bet they have some at a museum around town, or at a really posh store.

Is there a video of Nels somewhere doing karaoke? Because I can’t find it yet. Please link. Please.

I know! Sorry – Megan is the keeper of the video and I’m waiting for her to upload it. I’ll nudge her gently with a pushy IM.

She sits right next to your husband at work… have him threaten her with an elbow drop. He has sharp elbows.

Every time I have been in Japan I go to Muji multiple times. It is such a common thing to them, but I get so excited to shop there. The entire culture seems to be more sensitive to good design. The attention given to the design of everday objects is refreshing, especially since it is very affordable. I’m in Oklahoma City, and the best thing for affordable decent design is an Ikea three hours to the south near Dallas. Hopefully Muji (and other stores with a similar focus), will continue to expand into the U.S.
